The Family Relationship Centre is located in the diverse community of Port Augusta. The city has a large Indigenous population comprising many different Indigenous language groups from all over Australia. Its professionals include doctors, health workers, and police officers who have made their way to Port Augusta from many countries due to the opportunities our region offers.
Port Augusta lies at the edge of the desert between the spectacular Flinders Ranges and the pristine waters of the Spencer Gulf. It is also the gateway to Alice Springs and Darwin to the north and the Nullarbor and Eyre Peninsula to the west.
Because of the mining boom to the north and west hinterlands the population is projected to double within the next 10 years. The Family Relationship Centre will be well established to cope with the ever increasing demands placed on it by the changing nature of our community and its environs.
The Family Relationship Centre offers outreach services extending hundreds of kilometres to Ceduna in the west of the state, Coober Pedy in the north and the upper Yorke Peninsula.
Qualified staff provide information and advice for people at all stages of their relationships. Assistance is given to families experiencing relationship difficulties and those who have separated and who seek assistance to make workable arrangements for their children without having to go to court.
If required, the Centre can provide certificates to confirm to the court that an attempt at a family dispute resolution has been made.
The Centre is very child friendly with a range of children’s books and toys, and a fully equipped play area to keep children occupied when accompanying their parents to our centre.
The resource unit has a small library of books that may be borrowed or bought to assist families to deal with their relationship difficulties. Internet and telephone facilities for clients to make contact with other service providers is also available free of charge.
