Who we are

The Penrith Family Relationship Centre is managed by Relationships Australia - New South Wales and is a local grassroots community service. We work closely with families and other local services to assist parents focus on the changing developmental and emotional needs of their children during changes in families.

Where we are

We are located at 27 Lawson Street on the corner of Henry Street in Penrith. We are a 10 minute walk from Penrith railway Station, and the same distance from Penrith Plaza. There is plenty of parking within 3 blocks of the Centre. You can contact us on (02) 4720 4999 for more information or to arrange an appointment.

About the Centre

When you call, or drop in, you will speak to one of our staff who provide you with information and arrange a time for you to speak with a family advisor. The family advisor will talk with you about the relationship matters that you wish to discuss. Once they understand your family’s needs, they will work with you to plan the next step forward. Often this will involve inviting your spouse or partner (current or former) to attend a similar session.

Where appropriate you may be referred on to our family dispute resolution service where practitioners work with parents separately and together to facilitate ‘child focussed’ discussion about ongoing family issues/disputes. This is usually conducted by two practitioners and aims to help parents reach agreements on parenting arrangements that are best for their children.

Issues that you might want to discuss

Family Relationship Centres have been established to help people discuss any matters relating to strengthening family relationships, keeping families together, and assisting families through separation. We have a wide range of resources available including printed material, CDs and DVDs and you can also access the Family Relationships Online and the Family Relationships Advice Line free of charge.

Referrals and other services

We work closely with and refer to many other community and government organisations providing a variety of services including counselling, legal advice, migrant services and group work.

The Penrith FRC provides two seminars each week, 'Kids in Focus' and 'Understanding Family Dispute Resolution'. In addition, we also run a six week course on ‘Parenting after Separation’ at the Centre and School Holiday workshops for Kids.

Outreach Services

We offer fortnightly outreach on Wednesdays to satellite sites at Katoomba in the Blue Mountains and Richmond in the Hawkesbury.

Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Services

We have staff members who can speak Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Hindi, Gujarathi and Italian, and we also have access to interpreters.

Cost

Services are offered free including the first three hours of joint family dispute resolution, after which fees may be charged on a sliding scale depending on income.
