Offering a service for all family members

Rockhampton Family Relationship Centre opened in July 2007, and offers a range of services for families in the region in a welcoming and safe environment. The Centre is an Australian Government initiative, and is auspiced by Centacare, a Rockhampton Catholic Diocese community welfare agency.

As part of its services, the Centre offers a dispute resolution service for separated couples who want to resolve parenting issues and make parenting plans without going to court.  In addition to providing services to separated parents the Centre also facilitates contact between grandparents and other extended family members.

The Centre is child friendly with a children’s play area, age appropriate toys and DVDs available.  Although there is no supervised childcare on-site, temporary childcare can be negotiated with the nearby occasional childcare centre.

Families using the Centre can receive up to three hours of mediation free of charge. The Centre is open Monday to Friday 9pm-5pm.

Services across Central Queensland

The Centre covers the Central Queensland region from Gladstone, the Capricorn Coast, and the Central Highlands west to Longreach. The Centre has a part-time Information and Referral Officer based in Emerald to provide information and referrals, and arrange mediations at the Emerald office. Mediations in other Central Queensland locations may be possible upon negotiation with the Centre as part of a periodic visiting Rural and Outreach Service.  Telephone link-ups or referral to the Telephone Dispute Resolution Service can also be provided to clients where other options are not available.

Indigenous Services

The Centre is also working with Indigenous agencies to provide culturally appropriate services for Indigenous clients.

Location

The Centre is located in the multi-story building on the corner of East and Fitzroy Streets (Central Queensland University’s City Precinct building) – Fitzroy Street entrance, ground floor adjacent to East Lane. Parking is available on East Street or Quay Street near the river bank.  The Centre is wheelchair accessible.

Information Centre

The Centre offers brochures and advice regarding the regional services available for families.  Brochures can be posted to outlying regions or can be collected from the Centre.
